The long-awaited show IT: Welcome to Derry takes viewers back to the haunting town of Derry with a new prequel story that builds fear instead of using jump scares. The first episode generates a tone of discomfort, but the question is whether the rest of the season can keep that up.

Final Verdict

Welcome to Derry: Season 1 is a good origin narrative that takes its time to establish dread, focusing more on setting and tone than on scary scenes. This series is great if you like thrillers with a lot of atmosphere, slow-burn arcs, and a sense of growing discomfort. If you want horror that moves quickly or shocks right away, it could seem slow at first.

IT: Welcome to Derry Review

For all the wrong reasons, “IT Welcome to Derry” is a horrific film.

This is a sloppy mess that is lobotomized, splattery, over the top, completely with the wrong head, and poorly scripted. In comparison to the considerably superior literature and pictures, this is a divergence that is largely unrecognizable.

To my knowledge, the only genuine positive aspects that I can identify are the high-quality acting and production values, but that is really the extent to which this series can be improved.

To summarize, there is no question that the marketing gremlins will attempt to sell us on how “wonderful” this occurrence is. On the other hand, those who have read King’s novel and have experienced the superb “IT” films throughout the years, such as myself, will not be easily duped. One that should be avoided.
