What Works

  • Kantara Chapter 1 gives you a strong sense of place and custom. The tribal fights, religious fervor, and beautiful images give it weight and size.
  • The mythical tone is set by Rishab Shetty’s performance as Berme, which is backed up by a strong cast.
  • The quick switch to over-the-top (OTT) makes it available to watchers who speak more than one language, in addition to theatergoers.
  • The marketing and online plan has brought the show back to people’s attention, especially those who missed it in theaters.

Things to Note

  • The fast OTT window (just under a month after the movie comes out in theaters) may make people wonder how long the movie will stay in theaters in some areas.
  • Dubbed versions help reach more people, but the wait in the Hindi version may stop it from immediately helping streaming across India.
  • If viewers were hoping for a story set entirely in cities, the strong folk and mythological setting might be a departure from typical popular formulas.

Final Verdict

The first chapter of Kantara is a brave and deeply felt drama that combines folklore, intense action, and national identity into a show. With its upcoming OTT release, the movie will be able to reach even more people and build on its success in theaters. This is a movie you shouldn’t miss if you like mythical ideas, regional flavor, and a big picture.

Storyline: Kantara: Chapter 1

As part of the first family of Karnataka, the Kadambas, there was a made-up feudal lord named King Vijayendra who ruled over Bangra. Though he hasn’t said a word against the Kadambas, he is in charge of their sea trade. King Vijayendra was a brave and hated leader who supported slavery and not believing in God.

Kantara: Chapter 1 Review

A group of kids are exploring the forest when they come across a big well in the middle of all the trees. They are interested, so they ask one of their guides to tell them a story that takes them back hundreds of years to the time when local gods first appeared in the Bangra country. There were two tribes that lived together peacefully and shared the fruits of their idyllic forest until one of them went onto the other tribe’s land, which led to terrible things happening. This caused a response in return that quickly had all the signs of a conflict. They would trade not only spices and coffee, but also more slaves through the Portuguese, with the help of the cruel and weak king “Kulshekar” (Gulshan Devalah). Despotically, he takes advantage of the chance to invade the jungle garden to destroy their village and make the people work for him after their leader, “Berme” (Rishab Shetty), takes over their port. This sets up an epic battle between these two men as well as the powerful daiva who are now giving both sides superhuman abilities. Mythology is very deep, and the production is very colorful and lively. This is a very exciting story that shows Shetty as a charming action hero with a good heart and also lets Devalah have some fun as the haughty megalomaniac. Aside from a politically charged romance with princess “Kanakavathi” (Rukmini Vasanth), the whole movie is a grand spectacle that mixes the fantastic and the mythological with lots of fireworks and fight scenes that incorporate a lot of CGI into the action scenes to make a very interesting and fun adventure movie. There are a few songs I don’t really like, but the three hours went by quickly and I liked it.
