Storyline: The Conjuring: Last Rites
In 1964, Lorraine, who is pregnant, meets an evil being connected to a cursed old mirror while she is investigating. This causes her daughter Judy to have a very scary birth. Twenty years later, the Smurl family in Pennsylvania is still having terrible hauntings involving flying objects, dark figures, and violent attacks. These hauntings are all connected to the mirror that Heather was given as a teenager. As the Warren family gets together with Judy, now an adult, to face the demon that is controlling the spirits of murder victims, faith-based exorcisms and strong family bonds go up against rising terror, ending in a win that can be sealed in a museum.
The Conjuring: Last Rites Review
People love the scares, the atmosphere of dread, and the emotional ending for Warren. They often rate it higher than the third movie for character depth and scary ghosts. 58% of critics on Rotten Tomatoes give this $499M box office champ mixed reviews. They liked the visuals and the reward at the end, but they didn’t like the predictable beats, slow starts, or rushed endings. Fans love the jump scares and faith-based themes, but some complain that the two-hour runtime moves too slowly.
